Off Off Ramp (for Darron Eager)

More photos here

It took me 4 nights, Sunday through Wednesday, to watch all 13 episodes of The Wire season 1. Best time I've ever spent in front of a television.

A-OK

Thanks to Fluxblog, I feel comfortable coming out of the Andrew WK closet. A couple months ago I noticed a few of his songs in my iTunes library, courtesy of my roommate. I had never given the guy a second thought and managed to avoid hearing any of his songs all these years. I was of the strict opinion of this Pitchfork review, to a wet-t, without ever listening to one note. But now, fuck a duck, count me in. Shoot my ass into a college football stadium filled with faux-punk cheerleaders and let the good times roll like ping-pong balls out of a Thai hooker. Shit, he's got three albums coming out this year. The man won't stop. Sure, all his songs sound the same, but the sound can't be tamed. This one is from the Girls Own Juice EP.

"We Want Fun"

Looks like it was later re-released for the Jackass movie. [Video]

I DO like them, Samiam

Looks like Samiam are in the process of putting out their first record in six years. I think I'm actually a little excited for it. They used to be one of the Bay Area bands I completely obsessed over but lost track (interest) when they made that Snake Canyon jump to a major label. (I do remember seeing a video set in a kitchen for "No Size That Small" on MTV that wasn't half-bad.) It didn't kill them, at least not literally, but I never took the time to fully investigate their last two full-lengths. Well, I've recently dived into 1998's You Are Freaking Me Out and it's pretty freakin' good. I might think differently and call this too polished or cheesy if it was a newer band but I'm not. That's my prejudice and I'm stickin' to it.

You Wrote Holden Caulfield?

Check out this interview with Dr. Frank on Bookslut by Michael Schaub. It's like King Dork mania never took a vacation. So I was gonna post this clip of Green Day playing "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?" at Pinole High School in 1990 but when I saw the above one in the related videos sidebar, I couldn't resist. I'm sure Tom and Sam could blow them off a stage. Or out of a bedroom.
